Bookstore Shipper Receiver Clerk


The Shipper/Receiver Clerk position is part of our mail services department and institutionally-owned bookstore and has primary responsibility for shipping and receiving mail and all incoming and outgoing bookstore merchandise including trade books, textbooks, supplies, insignia clothing and gifts, and food. The Shipper/Receiver Clerk will lead the work of students in both mail services and the bookstore. This position reports to the Director of Auxiliary Services.

This is a full-time, non-exempt position working 37.5 hours/week. The pay is $18.50/hour. The ideal workweek is Monday through Friday, 8:30am – 5:00pm, with a one-hour unpaid lunch. This position will work occasional evening and weekend hours. What You'll Do (Essential Duties)

  • Accurately, efficiently receives all shipments within one day of arrival, unless an alternative timeline is communicated in advance. 
  • Counts, prices, and stocks or stores away all incoming merchandise.
  • Receives and distributes mail and packages to faculty, staff and students on campus.
  • Prepares outgoing mail and package shipments including USPS permit mailings and UPS and Fedex shipments to both domestic and international recipients. Boxes and processes all outgoing shipments.
  • Enters shipping, receiving, and invoice information into computerized inventory and database management systems. Accurately annotates and maintains all paperwork related to shipments.
  • Provides direction, guidance and monitors the work of student employees.
  • Follows up with vendors to resolve shipping issues and proactively reports these issues to the appropriate buyer.
  • Assists Book Department Manager with pulling textbook returns and buyback shipments.
  • Maintains shipping/receiving area, stockroom and mail services in a clean and orderly fashion.
  • Assists with stocking food, books and other merchandise as necessary.
  • Provides assistance in other areas of the bookstore and mail services, including working the registers and mail room windows, as needed.
  • Ability to lift and carry materials up to 70 lbs.


High school diploma or equivalent and any combination of experience and education, which provides the applicant with the desired skills, knowledge and abilities, required to perform the shipping and receiving duties of the position. Bachelor’s degree preferred. Valid driver’s license preferred.
