Reed College is seeking a Staff Counselor to work in our Health & Counseling Center (HCC). The HCC is an integrated center with a strongly collaborative and multi-disciplinary clinical staff that includes: Psychology Trainees, Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners, Social Work/Case Manager, Nurse Practitioners, Nurses, Licensed Psychologists, and Medical Doctors. The HCC strives to evaluate, maintain, and promote the general health of Reed students so that they may pursue their academic interests with clarity, confidence, and joy. The center is heavily utilized and is a lively and energetic place to work.

Reporting to the Counseling Lead, the Staff Clinician is a licensed clinical or counseling psychologist, LCSW, or licensed professional counselor whose primary role is to provide professional mental health services to the Reed student community. In discharging these duties this clinician is expected to be keenly sensitive to issues of gender, culture, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, disabilities, socio economic status and other multicultural identities and to be skilled in working with students with diverse backgrounds.

All the staff clinician’s activities are performed within the limits of standards and ethical principles of their professional organization, as well as applicable legal mandates for mental health professionals in the State of Oregon.

This is a limited duration, part-time position working 3 days (22.5 hours) a week from Aug 13, 2018 - May 15, 2019. The salary is $28,080. What You’ll Do (Essential Duties)

  • Ongoing counseling and psychotherapy; intake assessments; mental health consultation. Case disposition and case management, crisis intervention and risk assessment of students with a wide range of presentations.
  • Assessment, evaluation and the development of treatment recommendations to clients presenting with concerns including but not limited to depression, anxiety, suicidal ideation, disordered eating, relationship problems, family concerns, and academic difficulties. Issues related to intersecting identities are also a common focus of counseling support.
  • Several weeks of after hours on-call crisis intervention during the academic year.
  • Outreach and consultation for the campus community with a focus on multicultural inclusivity and cross-culturally relevant programming.
  • Liaison and coordination of care for students, including administrative responsibilities and complete necessary documentation and preparation for clinical work, including working within the electronic health record.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 1year experience providing counseling and psychological services with demonstrated clinical experience using a brief therapy model.
  • Valid and unencumbered professional licensure.
  • Demonstrated strong clinical and crisis management skills, including ability to work with high acuity students with complex mental health needs.
  • Demonstrated experience and expertise in multicultural counseling, Black student issues, gender and sexuality, particularly with trans and non-binary populations, substance use and abuse issues, men and masculinity, eating disorders and anxiety disorders, working with survivors of sexual assault.
  • Previous experience working in a college counseling or higher education setting preferred.
  • Experience working with electronic health records preferred.
