International Student Services Program Assistant (Internship)

The Office of International Student Services is seeking an International Student Services (ISS) Program Assistant. The ISS Program Assistant reports to the Assistant Dean of Students for International Student Service and plays an important role in the Office’s efforts to support international student success. You will also work closely with the Assistant Dean of Students for International Student Services to create a professional development plan that includes both departmental and personal professional goals. This position is an ideal opportunity for an international education or student affairs graduate student.

This is a limited duration, non-benefited, part-time internship position, for a duration of no longer than twelve months (July 2018-July 2019) with a two-week break over the winter holidays. The person in this role will work 15-20 hours per week, with typical work hours taking place between 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday, although some evening and weekend work may be occasionally required. The pay for this position is $19.00 an hour.

  • Assist with the daily operations and management of the international student services office, including working with student interns.
  • Assist with immigration advising for F-1 and J-1 international students.
  • Work closely with the International Student Advisory Board (ISAB)
    • Serve as adviser to the Board
    • Supervise the ISAB Coordinator student worker
    • Oversee the activities of the board, including the planning of the International Festival.
  • Provide support to the programming of the ISS office, including the Host Family Program and International Student Orientation.
  • Organize and lead off-campus activities through the Discover PDX program for international students.
  • Provide support to the InterConnect Peer Mentor Program, including assistance with programming, recruitment, interviewing, and training student leaders.
  • Coordinate and participate in programs for the international student population, including workshops, educational programs, cultural events, and student leadership activities.
  • Assist with the tax filing process for international students.
  • Facilitate the Summer Experience Award summer internship fellowship process.
  • Assist in the facilitation of office communications and correspondence, including social media, email, and weekly newsletters. Maintain and update the ISS website.
  • Assist with data collection, management, and reporting.
  • Provide administrative support to the Assistant Dean.


  • You are a United States citizen or Permanent Resident (per immigration regulation requirements).
  • Preference to candidates enrolled in a student affairs or international education graduate degree program.
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Involvement as an undergraduate student in areas such as clubs and organizations, student government, residence life, orientation, multicultural or international student organizations, leadership, service or related area.
  • US driver’s license preferred.
  • Experience in an International Student Services office a plus.
