Senior Financial Analyst


Reed College seeks a capable and innovative Senior Financial Analyst. The Senior Financial Analyst conducts research, performs analysis, and writes financial reports. This role will manage a large portfolio of projects and will work with long-range financial models, operating and capital budgets, and budget variance reports. This is an exciting position that will interact with leadership, faculty and staff to perform interesting and important financial analyses for the college. This Senior Financial Analyst reports to the Controller and is a member of the college’s Business Office.

This is a full-time role with a salary of $85,000.   • You love solving complex financial problems and answering questions with data.

  • You haven’t met a reporting or business intelligence tool that you don’t like. You have worked with Hyperion, COGNOS, or ARGOS extensively and you write your own reports.
  • You know SQL well, have already started learning it, or it is on your list of professional skills to acquire.

  • Even though you love spreadsheets and models, you don’t mind writing reports that present your ideas in prose.

  • You have worked with financial statements extensively.

  • You want to focus the next phase of your career with an organization in the nonprofit sector. Prior nonprofit experience is a plus, but higher ed experience is not required.
  • You have at least five years' work experience in a financial analyst role


  • Analyze financial data to identify internal and external trends, opportunities for cost containment, and other planning considerations.
  • Prepare quarterly and year-end management reports. Recommend actions on cost/revenue trends and budget variances.
  • Partner with departments across the college to develop models for key financial drivers including tuition, financial aid, auxiliary services, and endowment forecasts.
  • Assist the Controller in developing annual operating and capital budgets.
  • Further develop the college’s cash flow forecasting model to maximize returns on the cash management plan.
  • Prepare data analysis to support discussions with rating agencies and financial institutions.
  • Educate internal partners about the college’s financial models and lend extensive support to their budget decisions
  • Assist the Controller and Treasurer in preparing materials for Board of Trustee meetings.


  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in business, accounting, or finance. CPA and/or MBA preferred.
  • At least five years of professional experience in finance and/or accounting that demonstrates progressive responsibility and significant experience in areas of required knowledge and skills. 
  • Significant experience with financial reporting and financial modeling for an organization of comparable size and complexity. Also, must have significant experience with budget development, projections, variance analysis and financial metrics. 
  • Advanced level Excel and proficiency in MS Word, and PowerPoint.  Experience in a Mac environment helpful.
  • Experience extracting data from complex data systems, organizing and analyzing data, and presenting data in easy to understand graphical and executive summary formats.
  • Experience in non-profit finance strongly preferred.
  • Experience with Banner or other ERP system and Argos or a similar reporting tool is preferred.
