The Health & Counseling Center (HCC) at Reed College is accepting applications for a Staff Counselor - Intersectional Student Focus who focuses on providing services to support the success and mental well-being of students who identify at the intersection of being lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, asexual + and Black/African American, Indigenous/First Nations, Latinx, Asian American/Pacific Islander, Multiracial, and other underrepresented students through the provision of clinical services. These services will include conducting initial assessments, providing individual and group therapy/workshops, consultation, outreach, programming, and collaboration with campus partners. As with all Counseling Services staff, this individual will also be a generalist, providing a full range of clinical services to the larger Reed student population.
The creation of this position is a part of Reed College’s commitment to antiracism and social justice. This successful candidate has a comprehensive understanding of the lived experiences of LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC young adults or students, particularly in predominantly white institutions. Understanding the impact of homophobia, transphobia, discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity, racial stress, racial trauma, and systems of oppression will be critical to success in this position.

This is a full-time, exempt, 10-month position August through May with regular working hours Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Starting annual salary for this position is $61,500. What You’ll Do
- With a focus on LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC individuals, incorporate an understanding of the ways in which race, ethnic identity, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, privilege and oppression affect therapeutic service delivery.
- Provide culturally responsive and identity-informed individual and group counseling, with prioritization of clinical service provision to LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC students. Complete intake assessments and engage in individual and group counseling and psychotherapy utilizing a brief treatment model.
- Design and implement multiculturally-oriented and inclusive outreach programs, therapeutic groups, and skills-building workshops, with a focus on holistic wellness of LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC students.
- Foster strong professional relationships with Reed staff and programs who focus on serving students with marginalized identities (e.g. Multicultural Resource Center, Community-engaged learning, etc.)
- Provide mental health consultation for various campus departments and divisions, with a focus on multicultural inclusivity and cross-culturally relevant programming, helping the Reed community better understand and support the mental health needs of LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC students.
- Develop, evaluate and modify treatment plans for students presenting with concerns including but not limited to depression, anxiety, suicidal ideation, substance use and abuse, and disordered eating.
- Participate in after hours on-call crisis intervention during the academic year on a rotational basis with other counseling providers and occasionally on an as-needed basis.
- Complete administrative responsibilities in a timely manner, including preparation for clinical work and completion of necessary documentation utilizing the electronic health record.
LPC, LCSW, MA, MFT, or MSW in counseling, psychology, social work, marriage and family therapy or related fields; Or a PhD or PsyD in Clinical or Counseling Psychology. And one year of experience providing services to LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC clients.
Licensed or eligible for licensure in the state of Oregon in respective discipline within one-year of employment.
Experience providing outreach programming focused on the mental health needs of LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC people with a demonstrated commitment to social justice and intervening in acts of discrimination against marginalized groups. Demonstrated strong clinical and crisis management skills, including ability to work with high acuity students with complex mental health needs.
