Locksmith, Maintenance Specialist

The Locksmith is part of a Maintenance Specialist team that performs general facilities maintenance around campus to assure effective operation and use of HVAC, electrical, plumbing or mechanical systems and other facilities related furnishings, appliances and equipment. The Locksmith will troubleshoot, repair and maintain keys, locks and doors across Reed’s campus.

This is a full-time, non-exempt position. The pay is $24.00/hour. The typical workweek is Monday through Thursday 6:30am – 5:00pm. This position offers an opportunity to participate in an “in house” Electrical Apprenticeship program.

What You’ll Do (Essential Duties)

  • Repair and/or readjust door, hardware and security devices; cut keys, key bitting for interchangeable cores, and maintain key documentations.  

  • Investigate and diagnose problems, makes design corrections to campus. May be required and trained to make operational adjustments to systems as follows: perform all phases of maintenance, facilities installation and repair which may include electrical, mechanical, HVAC, plumbing, locksmithing, painting,fire alarm, general carpentry or structural repairs.

  • Use a variety of hand and power tools to maintain and repair physical plant systems and equipment.

  • Read and update blueprints and drawings to reflect changes and reconfigurations.

  • Provide in-depth technical advice and assistance to other maintenance staff. Update preventative maintenance procedures and information as needed. Perform preventive maintenance on mechanical systems and equipment; replaces, repairs, modifies mechanical equipment as needed.

  • Locate, select, and order parts and supplies. Responsible for tracking and rectifying purchasing card bank statement.

  • Complete required paperwork and maintain work areas in a neat and orderly manner.


  • High school diploma or G.E.D and master level license/certification in one trade/craft or journey level training plus two years’ journey level experience; or any combination of experience and education which provides the applicant with the desired skills, knowledge, and ability required to perform the work.

  • Pre-employment physical and valid driver’s license is required.

Working Conditions

Work is performed both indoors and outside with exposure to weather conditions. Physical effort may be required to lift heavy objects. May be required to work with hazardous chemicals and materials.
