Associate Director, Gift Planning

Reed College seeks a dynamic and collaborative person to be our next Associate Director of Gift Planning. The Associate Director is responsible for marketing, growing, and administering Reed’s Gift Planning program in alignment with an overarching strategic plan. This position manages a donor portfolio, responds to inquiries from donors, and partners with gift officer colleagues to develop proposals for deferred gifts as well as bequest commitments. This role reports to the Advancement Counsel and Senior Director of Gift Planning. This is a great role for a nimble thinker who loves to connect with many people and enjoys detailed administrative work.

This is a full-time, exempt position with an annual salary of $72,000.   • Implement the college’s overall fundraising strategy as it relates to the gift planning program
  • Partner with Senior Director to set strategy, market, and grow Reed’s charitable gift annuity program and legacy society; recognize and pursue opportunities using current identification and cultivation tools, including the donor database and in-house research. 
  • Manage a donor portfolio and travel as necessary (West Coast, up to twice monthly) to support donor relationships.
  • Work closely and collaboratively with the development team in order to support the team’s overall gift goals.  
  • Collaborate with multiple partners on campus to create and execute planned giving marketing plan; oversee direct mail efforts; review and document all procedures and report on results.
  • Collaborate with alumni engagement staff and alumni in reunion-based fundraising.


  • Frontline fundraising with direct gift planning experience or experience working with charitable giving or tax advantaged gift structures
  • Technical understanding of charitable giving vehicles a plus
  • Marketing experience preferred
  • Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets, and fundraising software as well as relational databases.
  • Ability to travel in and outside of Oregon
