Reed College seeks a Title IX and 504 Coordinator who is responsible for all compliance activities and the college’s response related to reports of possible violations of Title IX of the Higher Education Amendments of 1972 and other related federal and state laws. The Coordinator also has responsibility for enforcement of significant parts of the Discriminatory Harassment and Sexual Misconduct Policy. In addition, in collaboration with partners in Human Resources and college counsel, the Coordinator oversees programs and resources designed to ensure the college’s compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, Section 504. The Title IX Coordinator does not serve as the investigator or as an adjudicator of Title IX claims, but may serve in such a capacity regarding ADA-related grievances. This position reports to the Vice President for Student Life.
The Coordinator will have extensive knowledge of laws, regulations and best practices regarding sexual assault, sexual exploitation, sexual harassment, gender-based harassment, relationship abuse, dating violence, domestic violence, stalking and retaliation, as well as those pertaining to the full range of rights and responsibilities under the ADA/Sec 504.
This is a full-time, exempt position with typical working hours Monday through Friday, 8:30am – 5:00pm. The salary for this position is $100,000. What You’ll Do
- Oversee all programs for Title IX, VAWA, and Title IX-related Clery Act reporting, including VAWA-related education and prevention programs., to include: Conduct, review, and coordinate planning efforts in response to Title IX-related campus climate surveys.
- Maintain Title IX records, analyze data and trends, and identify any systemic problems; make recommendations for corrective action and policy revisions.
- Maintain expertise regarding compliance and best practices through education, review, and consultation with professional associations and colleagues.
- Conduct ongoing reviews of policies, procedures, practices, education and related obligations to ensure consistency with changing regulatory requirements and guidance from the Department of Education.
- Serve as the College’s content expert and liaison with College counsel in Title IX-related litigation.
- Assist with responding to media requests, including from the student newspaper, relating to Title IX. Participate in developing college communication strategy with respect to Title IX and related issues.
- Provide Title IX briefings to the President and to the Audit Committee of the Board of Trustees Serves as a Campus Security Authority as outlined by the Clery Act.
- Serve as the ADA/Section 504 Coordinator for the College and oversee grievances related to accessibility and accommodation concerns.
- Lead efforts to produce records and other information requested by counsel when required in Title IX and ADA Section 504 related litigation and regulatory matters.
- Work closely with the Vice President for Student Life, relevant Student Life staff, and the Director of Risk Management to define the student life risk management processes.
Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an ABA-accredited institution or advanced degree in a related field and substantial experience managing Title IX compliance. Three plus years’ experience in a higher education setting, strongly preferred. Relevant experience includes but is not limited to conducting and/or overseeing investigations regarding allegations of harassment, discrimination, sexual misconduct and/or sexual violence complaints. including disability services programs.
