The Director of Advancement Communications is responsible for developing and driving a cohesive communications strategy across multiple platforms, to engage and inspire constituents to support Reed College’s mission. They direct the efforts of a team with diverse communication roles and coordinate at the strategic and tactical levels with colleagues from across Advancement and the college. This role reports to the Executive Director of Advancement.

This is a full-time, exempt role with work hours of 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with a one hour unpaid lunch. Salary for this position is $90k per year. This is not a remote position.

What You’ll Do

  • In partnership with the Executive Director of Development, develop the college’s Advancement communication strategy
  • Motivate and manage a team with diverse communications roles to produce high-level, impactful content through a variety of mechanisms
  • Write clearly and concisely, adjusting content to be used across multiple platforms and to reach diverse audiences
  • Present compelling cases to catalyze interest, link donor aspirations to the college’s needs and secure support
  • Distill complex information into simple, clear messages using examples, stories, and community information that are relevant and resonate with the donor, volunteer, and partner
  • Contribute to strategy development, goal setting and implementation of multi-year plans to maximize engagement with Reed
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive communication plan to keep supporters and partners informed and engaged
  • Set targeted goals with quantifiable outcomes and timelines. Ensure that evaluation systems are in place related to goals and identifies measures of success to determine what has gone well, what needs improvement and how to adapt for the future
  • Partner with peers across Advancement shape messages that will resonate with different audiences
