Maintenance Technician, Plumber Trainee

Reed College seeks a Maintenance Technician to join our amazing Facilities team. In addition to performing routine maintenance tasks, this position will also be responsible for shadowing our plumber in a training capacity. This is a great opportunity for someone who is mechanically inclined to learn basic maintenance skills and specialized plumbing skills while training on the job. This position reports to the Maintenance Operations Manager.

This is a full-time role with typical work hours of 6:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m, four days per week with a 30-minute unpaid lunch. This position participates in an on-call rotation which requires some work outside of the scheduled shift, including on weekends. This is a non-exempt position on Grad MT. The pay is $24.00 per hour.

What You’ll Do

  • Respond to customer maintenance requests for general building and equipment repairs using a variety of industry standard processes and equipment
  • Support a variety of campus facilities needs as assigned 
  • Participate in on-call rotation which may require work after hours, weekend, or holidays for urgent repairs
  • Diagnose problems, replace and/or repair parts, test equipment, and makes adjustments
  • Perform a variety of building preventative maintenance tasks
  • Follow a plumbing/mechanical training program as provided by the manager
  • Provide general upkeep to physical structures, i.e painting, troubleshoot and repair heating, electrical, plumbing, and other general maintenance as needed
  • Adhere to facilities safety standards and protocols
  • You will be eligible to participate in the campus electrical apprenticeship program. (resulting in a state of Oregon limited maintenance electrical license)
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • 1 year of relevant work experience
