Join the Reed College Business Office as our next Payroll Supervisor! We're looking for a detail-oriented and collaborative professional to lead our day-to-day payroll operations. In this role, you’ll help ensure our payroll processes run smoothly, accurately, and in compliance with college policies and legal requirements. You'll serve as a key resource and subject matter expert, helping to resolve payroll-related questions and challenges with care and confidence.

This role reports to the Associate Treasurer and Controller. This is not a remote position.

The starting salary for this position is $80k-$85k. Pay offers are contingent upon experience and are determined through an internal pay assessment. This is an exempt position in grade 8.

What You’ll Do
- Serve as the subject matter expert for payroll and payroll-related matters
- Ensure the accurate and timely processing of payroll for faculty, staff and students using the Banner payroll module
- Supervise the Payroll Specialist, assign routine/project work, and oversee to completion
- Have a working knowledge of the Payroll Specialist's key responsibilities in order to serve as the back-up
- Maintain the payroll module, including configuration, data integrity, and related reporting
- Trouble-shoot/resolve configuration, processing, compliance, data, and other payroll related issues
- Perform financial analysis, including budget-to-actual variance analysis and forecasting for salary
and benefits
- Ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulation
- Maintain position control budgets, perform routine financial analysis, and collaborate with HR and VP/Deans on budgets
- Complete annual and quarterly state and federal payroll tax filings and resolve issues as they arise
- Reconcile payroll related withholding accounts
- Coordinate the completion of external audits, including, but not limited to, the benefit plans and workers compensation
- Implement quality control measures, proper internal controls, and process improvement initiatives
- Respond to inquiries from faculty, staff and student employees and resolves issues as they arise
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure system accuracy and integrity
- Maintain procedural and policy documentation
Minimum Qualifications
- 5 years of payroll experience
