The Reactor Operations Manager supervises and coordinates operational and administrative activities in the TRIGA Reactor Facility and will ensure that these activities are performed safely and in accordance with the reactor operating license and technical specifications, as issued by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. This is an excellent opportunity to mentor a diverse group of undergraduate students. The primary mission of the reactor is educating students and members of the public. This position reports to the Director of the Reed Research Reactor. This is not a remote position.

Starting salary for this position is $57k-$60k. Pay offers are contingent upon experience and are determined through an internal pay assessment. This is an exempt position on grade 5.

What You’ll Do
- Support nuclear safety culture
- Participate in hiring, training, and assigning work to student employees
- Demonstrate proficiency in relevant regulations
- Included on the Emergency Notification Call List to respond to urgent and emergency situations outside of regular business hours
- Assist in maintaining accurate departmental records
- Coordinate facility access for reactor and staff, faculty, and students
- Act as a Principle User under the Reed College Radiation Program
- Participate on the Reactor Operations Committee, Radiation Safety Committee, and other committees as assigned
- Support science outreach efforts
- Assist in coordinating use of facilities for scientific research
- Provide assistance to the Director with duties as required
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree
- One year post-grad or two years undergraduate experience related to reactor operations
