Reed College seeks a temporary payroll specialist to join our Business Office. The payroll specialist will work collaboratively with the payroll team to process bi-weekly and semi-monthly payrolls, input payroll related information in the college’s HRIS system, and engage on various other projects as needed. The specialist will also interact with faculty, staff, and students to answer general payroll related inquiries and assist with the completion of payroll related paper work. This role reports to the associate treasurer and controller. This is not a remote position.
This is a temporary, part-time role scheduled to work 25 hours a week for approximately 6-12 weeks. There may be weeks where additional hours will be scheduled as needed.
Starting pay for this position is $28-$30/hour. Pay offers are contingent upon experience and are determined through an internal pay assessment. This is an overtime eligible position on grade 5.

What You’ll Do
- Process semi-monthly and/or bi-weekly payrolls for salaried and hourly employees.
- Maintain payroll records and ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
- Review and verify timesheets, wage computation, and other information.
- Handle wage garnishments, deductions, and benefit contributions.
- Prepare payroll reports for internal and external stakeholders.
- Collaborate with HR and the business office to resolve discrepancies.
- Respond to employee inquiries regarding payroll and deductions.
Minimum Qualifications
- 2 years payroll processing or related experience
