Associate Director of Alumni Programs and Annual Fund

Reed College seeks a dynamic and capable Associate Director of Alumni Programs and Annual Fund to join our institution’s Development group. The Associate Director’s main responsibility will be to manage the college’s alumni volunteers, including its volunteer alumni board, fundraising volunteers, and reunions class volunteers. The Associate Director will also serve as a gift officer, stewarding a portfolio of about 100 donors. 

This role supports the college’s goal of increased alumni engagement and philanthropy by ensuring volunteers are engaged in meaningful work. This position reports to the Director of Alumni Programs within the Alumni Programs and Annual Fund office.

This is a full-time role. A full-time work week at Reed College is 37.5 hours, and typical work hours are 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday with a one-hour unpaid lunch, however this role requires occasional evening and weekend work. The starting salary range for this position is $55,000 to $62,000.

WHO YOU ARE 

  • You have three years' fundraising or fundraising-like activities. You can speak about the value of giving back to a cause-based organization.
  • You know that you like managing high-touch volunteers. Ideally, you have done this before.
  • You love talking to people, including talking to people on the phone. You know people are busy and you don’t mind reaching out in several different ways in order to make sure you connect. This isn’t awkward to you, it’s natural.
  • You are thoughtful and friendly and are known for your patience.
  • You always follow through. It’s important for you to keep your commitments to others.
  • You don’t mind working a few nights and weekends. You know that this is what it takes in your field, and this is when people are available to speak with you.
  • You have strong writing skills. You write concise, considerate emails.
  • You dig using databases and your excel skills are strong—you use Excel formulas and charts. You’re excited to learn another fundraising and relationship management software. Technology makes your job easier, not harder.
  • You prefer working in a team to working alone.
  • You have a genuine desire to be of service to others and this is reflected in the career choices you’ve made.
  • You understand the value of a liberal arts education and are skilled in describing it to others. Note that attendance at a liberal arts college is not required.
  • You have an impeccable track record of integrity and the highest professional and ethical standards for handling confidential information.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Manage and provide support for Reed’s Alumni Board, including the Executive Committee and the Diversity and Inclusion Committee.
  • Manage alumni fundraiser volunteers, including recruiting, training, and engaging the volunteers for Alumni Fundraising for Reed
  • Support the college’s annual Reunions event each June by coordinating and supporting several quinquennial class committees.
  • Manage a portfolio of about 100 donors, providing cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
  • Serve as the alumni office’s point of contact for alumni in Cohort Four (i.e. alumni who graduated 40 or more years ago). Provide coordination and support for this cohort’s group, the Foster-Scholz Club. Assist the Foster-Scholz steering committee in setting their schedule of events for the year.
  • Serve as the main point of contact to other departments who have alumni volunteers. Manage the internal volunteer hub, including setting best practices in recruiting, training, managing, and stewarding volunteers.
  • Manage a salon series for local alumni, featuring other alumni panelists and speakers.
  • Manage the alumni awards program, including the Babson Society Outstanding Volunteer Award and the Foster-Scholz Club Distinguished Service Award. Assist with the Thomas Lamb Eliot Award.
